The Golden Gate Bridge is a 227 m (746 feet) high and 2,737 m (8,981 feet) long suspension bridge designed by Joseph Strauss and spanning over San Francisco Bay. At the time of construction it was the longest structure of this type in the world with the longest span of 1,280 m (4,200 feet). It was build in little over four years to be opened on 27th of May 1937 and cost about $26M.
Golden Gate Bridge, with its distinguishing orange paintjob, is one of the most recognized landmarks of California, and the whole USA for that matter. It is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful bridges in the world.
